Diabetes Education and Screening Event Planned

Diabetes Education

The School of Nursing will offer its first on-campus diabetes education and screening event this Saturday, Feb. 28, 10 a.m.–1 p.m., in Noble Hall, suite 116. The event is open to students, faculty and staff and members of the community.more

Proposals for presentations

N.C. A&T faculty members are invited to submit proposals for 20- to 30-minute presentations at the third annual Instructional Technology Showcase, which will feature emerging technologies and innovative practices to enhance teaching and learning. Presentations must demonstrate how technology is being used in classes to enhance teaching and learning, and topics should reflect current and future technology trends in education. 

 

Proposals are due Sunday, March 1. Click here to submit a proposal.

 

The showcase will be Wednesday, March 18, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., in the Alumni-Foundation Event Center.

Summer textbook deadline

Barnes and Noble at North Carolina A&T State University reminds faculty members that the deadline is Sunday, March 15, for textbook adoptions for summer sessions I and II. Faculty members can log into FacultyEnlight to research and adopt texts.

Entrepreneurship Counseling Clinics

Faculty, staff and students who are current or potential business owners are invited to make an appointment for an Entrepreneurship Counseling Clinic to be conducted by the Department of Management. For an appointment, contact Dr. Thaddeus McEwen at mcewent@ncat.edu or 336-285-3356.

Counseling Session 1 will be Wednesday, March 18 and April 23, 1–2 p.m. and 2:30–3:30 p.m., in Merrick Hall, room 140. The counselors will be Sharonetta McIntyre, business counselor, and Bob Weston, director, from the Small Business and Technology Development Center.

Counseling Session 2 will be Thursdays, March 19 and April 29, noon–1 p.m., in Merrick Hall, room 140. The counselor will be Shana Ayscue, president and CEO of STA Technologies LLC and SCORE Association (previously the Service Corps of Retired Executives).

FAFSA Day

The Student Financial Aid Office will host FAFSA Day in conjunction with CFNC on Saturday, Feb. 28, 9 a.m. until noon, in the second floor computer lab in the General Classroom Building. Participants may register online at www.CFNC.org, and should bring with them two copies of their W-2 form and the student’s/parent’s federal income tax forms for 2014. ITSDE workshops

Instructional Technology Services and Distance Education (ITSDE) is offering a series of workshops on using Blackboard®, Online Course Development, Blackboard Collaborate and other technology related topics designed to help faculty and staff enhance instruction and improve productivity. Spring professional development course offerings

The spring professional development course offerings, sponsored by the Division of Human Resources - Center for Leadership and Organizational Excellence (CLOE), target four areas designed to enhance workforce development capabilities: Organizational Culture, Results Orientation, Leadership, and Compliance. Income tax assistance

Taxpayers who prepare their own returns and have income of $57,000 or less are eligible for free federal and state tax preparation and e-file software through www.myfreetaxes.com. The website is sponsored by the Walmart Foundation in cooperation with Goodwill Industries International, the National Disability Institute and the United Way, working in a partnership with the Internal Revenue Service.

Dr. Salil Desai, associate professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, and Dr. Kelly Graves, executive director of the Center for Behavioral Health and Wellness, were selected by the Triad Business Journal for its 2015 class of 40 Leaders Under 40 for the Piedmont Triad area.

 

Desai was honored for his research in collaboration with high-tech nano and bio companies that has the potential to revolutionize the fabrication of regenerative tissue scaffolds, bio-chem sensors and functionally gradient materials that lead to next-generation devices and systems. He has patented a major advance in nanomanufacturing and has collaborated to apply his technology to the fabrication of flexible thin-film-transistors for aerospace technologies.

 

Graves was honored for her work at the center to bring the community a new level of trauma-focused services. Since it was established in 2012, she has grown the center’s staff, has secured over $2.5 million in funding and has led the development of partnerships with 42 public and private organizations and 20 private agencies.

Dr. Gregory GoinsDr. Gregory Goins, associate professor of biology, has been named a White House Champion of Change. Goins is one of 11 faculty and staff members from historically black colleges and universities who were honored in Washington Feb. 25 for effectively promoting college completion and student success at HBCUs.

 

Goins organized the Integrative Biomathematical Learning and Empowerment Network for Diversity (iBLEND) program at N.C. A&T. iBLEND represents a partnership between faculty mentors from various disciplines working together to retain undergraduates in science, technology, mathematics and engineering (STEM). The mentors also help students prepare for post-graduate opportunities and careers, primarily at the interface between biology and mathematics. Since 2010, over 100 A&T undergraduates have completed research internships collaborating with iBLEND

Dr. Jerono P. Rotich

Dr. Jerono P. Rotich, associate professor in the department of Human Performance and Leisure Studies, School of Education, and co-author Philliph Masila Mutisya of North Carolina Central University, have published a book chapter, “Global Literacy Skills and Collaborative Strategies for Enhancing Professional Development for Teachers and Educators,” in Jared Keengwe, Justus G. Mbae, and Simon K. Ngigi’s book, Promoting Global Literacy Skills through Technology-Infused Teaching and Learning (IGI Global Press).
