Human Rights Medal Nominations Deadline: Nov. 16

Nominations for the 2016 North Carolina A&T State University Human Rights Medal are due by Monday, Nov. 16. The award recognizes individuals who have endeavored to correct social injustice and have significantly contributed to the betterment of the world. Maintenance Weekend

Information Technology Services (ITS) will conduct a maintenance weekend, 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, through 6 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 15. During this timeframe, updates and routine maintenance procedures will be performed on IT systems and infrastructure. The following systems may experience intermittent interruptions:
BDMS (Banner Document Management System); EPA Payroll Server; HVAC Controls (Facilities); RMS (Resource Management System); Aggie Connect (SharePoint 2013); eVisions MAPs and University File Shares. Test your applications after the maintenance weekend and report any problems to Aggie Tech Support at 336-334-7195.

Lunch with Coach Broadway

Come out on Tuesday, Nov. 17, to have lunch with head football coach Rod Broadway. Enjoy a hot meal and hear from Coach Broadway and players on the upcoming game against North Carolina Central. The cost of the lunch is $5 for staff. The event will be in the Alumni-Foundation Event Center and it begins at noon. Faculty Senate Meeting

The next Faculty Senate meeting will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the Academic Classroom Building, room 101. The meeting can be viewed at the following link: http://bit.ly/1GNIw2F. All faculty members are encouraged to click on the link at any time before the meeting to ensure they are able to view the presentation. The on-demand recording can be accessed using the same link. Log on early and follow the instructions for your computer, tablet, laptop or smartphone. Participants may also post questions. Please mark your calendars.

Payroll Reminders

Employees are reminded to update their change of address if the mailing address on the paycheck stub or direct deposit statement is different from their current mailing address. If your address has changed and a correction is needed, contact the Division of Human Resources. In addition, remember to sign up for electronic W-2 consent and direct deposit. For more information about receiving the W-2 form electronically or for direct deposit forms, visit the payroll website.

Lastly, the payroll processing time frame for November and December is abbreviated due to the holidays. Please plan to submit and/or approve time online by the established deadlines to ensure prompt and accurate pay.

Pictorial History Book

This limited-edition hardcover book is the collector’s item you will be proud to own! Books may be purchased in-store or online by visiting ncat.bncollege.com.

 

For individuals unable to purchase in-store or online, please call 336-334-7593 and ask for the mail orders department. Phone orders will be processed using a secure form for credit cards. For check purchases, checks must be received by the store before the product will ship out. 2015-16 Combined Campaign Ends Dec. 7

With less than a month to go until it ends Monday, Dec. 7, N.C. A&T’s 2015–16 Faculty and Staff Combined Campaign—University Employees Campaign (UEC) and the State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC)—still needs donations and pledges to achieve the cumulative goal of raising $275,000. Remember, contributions designated for scholarships through the UEC also will count toward the university’s goal to raise $1.25 million for A&T student scholarships during the observance of its 125th anniversary this academic year. Please complete and turn in your gift form to help achieve the goal and to be eligible for weekly prize drawings. 125 Service Projects

As a land-grant university, N.C. A&T has a special responsibility to strategically partner with groups and individuals locally, nationally and globally to make a lasting, positive impact on social and environmental challenges that proactively respond to the needs of others. As an extension of the university’s commitment, and as part of the university’s 125th anniversary observance, a challenge has been issued to all students, alumni, faculty and staff to actively participate in a service project in their respective communities. Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr.

Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr. has been named one of the Triad’s Most Influential People by Triad Business Journal for 2015. According to Triad Business Journal, this year’s honorees “represent a broad cross-section of our economy, and the list includes business executives, community leaders and philanthropic champions.” Martin and 93 others were honored at a reception at High Point University on Nov. 5.

 

Martin joined N.C. A&T in 2009 as the university’s first alumnus to serve as the chief administrator. Drawing from his experiences as a student, educator and administrator, he has brought to the university visionary leadership and a commitment to continue the university’s 125-year legacy of excellence by establishing and cultivating academically sound and relevant, strategic partnerships. He is a member of the U.S. Senate Education Task Force, the USDA/1890 Task Force, the NCAA HBCU & LRI Advisory Group, the North Carolina New Schools Program board, the Piedmont Triad Development Council Board of Directors, Piedmont Federal Savings Bank and many others.

Dr. Tiffany Fuller, assistant professor, and Dr. Jerono P. Rotich (pictured), professor and interim chair, Department of Human Performance and Leisure Studies, co-presented a session, “The Hawaiian Experience – Dance, Music and Art,” at the 67th North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance and Sport Management (NCAAHPERD-SM) convention that was in Winston-Salem last month. Fuller and Rotich also have co-published a book chapter, “Physical Activity Among Immigrant and Refugee Youth: What Physical Education Teachers Need to Know,” in the Handbook of Research on Global Issues in Next-Generation Teacher Education (IGI Global).

 

Rotich and Allegra J. Laing, study abroad coordinator in the Office of International Studies, co-presented a paper, “Using Technology to Bridge the Cultural Divide, at the NAFSA Region VII Conference for the Association of International Educators in Savannah, Georgia, Oct. 25–28.
