New Personal Vehicle Mileage Reimbursement Rates

The Office of State Budget and Management has modified the personal vehicle mileage reimbursement rates, effective Jan. 1. For round trips that do not exceed 75 miles, individuals may be reimbursed at the current IRS business rate of 54 cents per mile (formerly 57.5 cents in 2015). The motor fleet rate of 34 cents per mile will be reimbursed for round trips exceeding 75 miles. There is no requirement to check for state vehicle availability; the reimbursement rate is dependent upon the round trip mileage. A revised travel workbook is available on the Business and Finance “Forms” web page.

2015 W-2 Forms

The W-2 forms for tax year 2015 are now available online to employees who elected to receive their W-2s electronically. To access the form, log into Aggie Access Online (SSB): select “Employee”; select “Tax Forms”; select “W-2 Wage and Tax Statement”; and select “2015” and click “Display.” W-2s were mailed Jan. 28 to employees who did not elect to receive the form electronically.

Cheating and Plagiarism Forum

The university community is invited to attend “Cheating and Plagiarism in the Internet Age,” 4–5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the General Classroom Building Auditorium, room A-218. Students, faculty and staff will present information and discuss the various forms of cheating, reasons people attempt to cheat and A&T’s policy on academic dishonesty. Proof of attendance tickets will be available and refreshments will be served following the program. For more information, contact Dr. Beverly C. Siren Test: Feb. 11

The university’s emergency management team will conduct a siren test at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, for the spring semester. During the test, the campus will be notified through various forms of communications, including text, email, web and social media. The test will last approximately 10 minutes. Winter Agricultural Literacy Fest

The School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences has scheduled its annual Winter Agricultural Literacy Fest for Friday, Feb. 26. Approximately 300 high school students will spend the day touring campus and the University Farm, while learning about the N.C. A&T programs that prepare them for agricultural professions.

Ailey II

The N.C. A&T Lyceum Series will present Ailey II: The Next Generation of Dance at 7:30 p.m., March 1–2, in the Richard B. Harrison Auditorium. The artists will perform a diverse repertory including Alvin Ailey’s timeless classics and new works by today’s emerging choreographers. A&T students are admitted free with their valid Aggie OneCard.

Pictorial History Book

Available now at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore at N.C. A&T is “Mens et Manus: A Pictorial History of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.” This limited-edition hardcover book is the collector’s item you will be proud to own! Books may be purchased in-store or online by visiting ncat.bncollege.com.

125 Service Projects

As a land-grant university, N.C. A&T has a special responsibility to strategically partner with groups and individuals locally, nationally and globally to make a lasting, positive impact on social and environmental challenges that proactively respond to the needs of others. As an extension of the university’s commitment, and as part of the university’s 125th anniversary observance, a challenge has been issued to all students, alumni, faculty and staff to actively participate in a service project in their respective communities. Rod Broadway, head football coachRod Broadway, head football coach, has been named the 2015 SBN Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year. Broadway is the first coach to win SBN Black College National Championships at three different colleges.

 

In 2015, Broadway earned his 100th career victory when the Aggies defeated Norfolk State, 27-3, at William “Dick” Price Stadium in Norfolk, Virginia. He led the Aggies to a 10-2 mark overall and a 7-1 finish in the MEAC to win their second consecutive co-MEAC title. He also led the Aggies to a 41-34 win over Alcorn State in the inaugural Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl.

 

Broadway will receive SBN’s award at the Black College Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony on Saturday, March 19, in Atlanta. His other coach of the year awards include CIAA (2005 and 2006, N.C. Central), Pigskin Club of Washington, D.C. (2005, 2006 and 2008) and SWAC (2008, Grambling).

Dr. Jerono P. RotichDr. Jerono P. Rotich, professor and interim chair of the Department of Human Performance and Leisure Studies, along with colleagues K.M. Mwanzia, and K.M. Mwenda, co-edited a book, “Kenya After 50: Reconfiguring Education, Gender, and Policy (ISBN-13:978-1137574626, January 2016). Palgrave Macmillan, New York, is the publisher.

 

 

Antoine SmithAntoine Smith, chairman and CEO of the Smith Gruppe LLC in Greensboro, has joined the School of Business and Economics as entrepreneur-in-residence. Smith will lend his expertise to the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI) by supporting the center’s programming, including the Interdisciplinary Entrepreneurship Initiative, which expands entrepreneurship to all disciplines on campus, the Entrepreneurship Coaching Clinic and the Community Outreach Initiative. In addition to supporting CEI, he will lecture in classes, speak at campus events and collaborate with other areas on campus to help students and faculty translate their ideas into entrepreneurial ventures.

 

Smith has more than 25 years of executive and entrepreneurial experience including risk assessment and investment relations management, sales team management, mortgage banking, new business development and business consulting. His current company provides corporate level advising and consulting services to small and medium-sized businesses.

The MOU, which was signed Sept. 30 by Dr. Joe B. Whitehead, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at N.C. A&T, Rev. Fr. George Nkeze, president of CUIB makes provisions for A&T to mentor CUIB. Faulkner (right) associate professor in the Department of Agribusiness, Applied Sciences and Agriscience Education, submitted a proposal, “Ready, Set, G.R.O.W.: Healthy Parenting Practices for School-Age Children,” to the Guilford Parent Academy and were selected to provide parents with interactive workshops to discuss strategies and behaviors (serving as role models, using edible gardens) related to healthy living/eating in families for school-age children. Presentations will take place this spring.
