Student Honors Convocation Recognizes Top Students

North Carolina A&T State University held its annual Student Honors Convocation, Wednesday, April 9, to celebrate the academic achievements of its undergraduate and graduate students.

Henry E. Frye Sr., A&T alum and retired chief justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court gave the keynote address and encouraged students to stay the course and “never give up.”

Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr. congratulated all the students for their accomplishments.

“High achieving students are not just born. For most of you, this journey has been filled with great sacrifice, perseverance and an unwavering commitment to get the job done and done well. You make no excuses and you give the best of yourself to achieve your goals,” said Martin.

Outstanding students from all the schools and colleges were recognized for their accomplishments during the ceremony.

Award recipients were:

  • College of Arts & Sciences - Kimberly Fields
  • College Engineering - Anthony Dobson
  • School of Agriculture & Environmental Science - Iritha J. Brodie
  • School of Business & Economics - Ariel Barlow
  • School of Education - AnJanette Hunt
  • School of Nursing - Sheneka Jones
  • School of Technology - Kelechi Ikegwu
  • Center for Academic Excellence - Solange Doldron
  • Center for Academic Excellence Transfer Student - Cedric Ilo

The university also recognized two students with distinguished awards.

The 2013-14 Chancellor’s Award for Academic Excellence was awarded to Iritha Jasmine Brodie, a 4.0 senior agriculture and environmental systems, agri-business and food industry management major in the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

The 2013-14 University Award was given to Destenie Nock, a 4.0 senior with a double major in electrical engineering and applied mathematics in the College of Engineering. Nock is the recent recipient of the distinguished George J. Mitchell Scholarship and will conduct her year-long graduate work at the university in Ireland.

Both awards are given to a student who holds an outstanding record of accomplishment and leadership in areas of scholarship, student activities and community life.
