College of Engineering to Celebrate Engineer’s Week

The College of Engineering will host National Engineer’s Week, Monday, Feb. 17 through Saturday, Feb. 22, at North Carolina A&T State University. This year’s theme is “DiscoverE: Let’s Make a Difference.”

A kick-off celebration will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m. in McNair Hall Auditorium. The school will host a mock career fair at 4 p.m. The mock fair is designed to prepare students to effectively navigate through the upcoming Spring Career Fair on campus set for Feb. 20 in Corbett Sports Center.

"Each year we look forward to Engineer’s Week as a great opportunity to showcase the excellence of our students and the pioneering research, innovations and global engagement activities happening here in our College of Engineering,” said Dr. Robin Coger, dean of the College of Engineering.

“It is also a week in which we share our engineering and computer science professions with prospective students, K-12 students, and the community. We invite everyone to see first-hand the significant impact our disciplines have on our society," Coger said.

Guilford County middle and high school students will engage in hands-on engineering activities from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, sponsored by the National Society of Black Engineers. The Society of Women Engineers will host the Introduce a Girl to Engineering session on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Aycock Middle School. Sessions designed for university students interested in undergraduate research and fellowships and improving presentation skills will also be held on that day.

The Order of the Engineer Ceremony for graduating will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, in McNair Auditorium.

According to DiscoverE (formerly National Engineers Week Foundation), the first engineer’s week celebration was held in 1951 and was created by the National Society of Professional Engineers. The mission of DiscoverE is to sustain and grow a dynamic engineering profession through outreach, education, celebration and volunteerism.
