Construction on Energy Efficient Student Health Center Makes Progress

The North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University skyline at the corner of Benbow Road and Bluford Street is changing as construction on the new Student Health Center continues.

The building, which will replace the Sebastian Health center on Nocho Street, is a state-of-the-art facility projected to serve the growing need of students for years to come.

It was designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification after completion. LEED is a building certification process developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

North Carolina A&T State University project manager, Kofi Yiadom explained that, “The USGBC developed the LEED certification process to enhance environmental awareness among architects and building contractors, and to encourage the design and construction of energy-efficient, water-conserving buildings that use sustainable or green resources and materials.”

Upon its completion and certification the new 27,548 sq. feet campus infirmary will be the first LEED Certified building on campus.
