University to Host Annual Constitution Day Teach-in

Race relations, police power, stand your ground laws, immigration and voting rights will be the hot topics for this year’s Annual Constitution Day Teach-in at North Carolina A&T State University, Wednesday, Sept. 17, 6:30 p.m.

In commemoration of Constitution Day (Sept. 17) and in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the teach-in will address the successes and failures of the justice through the decades.

Hosted by the departments of political science, criminal justice, history and journalism and mass communication, discussion leaders, spoken word artists/activists and vocal ensembles will give voice to the following topics on inequality, human rights and civil rights issues, disparities in healthcare and the first amendment.

The event, which will be held in the General Classroom building auditorium, will also provide an opportunity for community members to address current local public and constitutional issues. There will be a moment of silence in observance of the historical Birmingham, Ala. church bombing which took place on Sept. 15, 1963.
