Accreditation Council Appoints Alum to New Special Assistant Post

Dr. Scott Jackson Dantley, is the newly appointed special assistant to president for equity and global initiatives at the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

CAEP is the sole accrediting body for educator preparation which serves all providers currently accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). More than 900 educator preparation providers, which include traditional institutions of higher education and residency programs, participate in the CAEP accreditation system.

“I am pleased to accept the CAEP appointment as special assistant to the president. My responsibilities regarding the initiatives of equity, institutional capacity building, and global affairs support CAEP’s strategic direction and address critical areas in preparing the next generation of professional educators,” said Dantley.

Dantley has a long history of administrative experience in accreditation and higher education. He has held executive level positions in higher education as a tenured professor, dean, associate provost and associate vice president at several universities over the last 15 years overseeing areas in assessment, institutional research, as well as national and regional accreditation. He joins CAEP from serving as the vice president of recognition services at the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), which is responsible for recognizing approximately 60 accreditors.

In his new role, Dantley will help CAEP deliver on its commitment to strengthening equity throughout our accreditation processes, including institutional capacity building and assist CAEP’s outreach to address international accreditation and other global considerations.

He received a master of science in chemistry from North Carolina A&T State University in 1995. He credits a great deal of his success to the support he received from the university while he was a graduate student.

“A&T provided me with a solid education in chemistry. I was exposed to excellent and knowledgeable professors who were committed to developing the whole person,” Dantley said. “A&T was a great place to learn, grow and make lifelong friendships.”

Dantley received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from The George Washington University, and a master and doctorate from The University of Maryland in science education with a focus in chemistry education.

He serves on the University of Wyoming Advisory Board of a grant funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), a project to implement Visualization Gaming to Improve Computational Thinking. He also serves on The George Washington University Alumni Advisory Board, and he is the official representative of that board to the university’s Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.
