2015 Social Entrepreneurship Conference

N.C. A&T will host the North Carolina 2015 Social Entrepreneurship Conference next Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 10-11. The event will be held in the Alumni-Foundation Evens Center.

The conference invites students from all 17 UNC system campuses to compete in identifying some of the state’s most pressing social problems and developing a business-oriented approach to solving them.

Attendees will listen to some 40 teams pitch their ideas to a panel of judges from the business and nonprofit communities. Winners will receive cash prizes and technical support for implementation. There will be separate categories for graduate students and undergraduates. N.C. A&T will have four teams of students in the competition.

This will be the third UNC social entrepreneurship conference, all held at A&T. The first two drew more than 1000 attendees, and more than 70 student teams competed. Last year’s top winners came from the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics and UNC Pembroke.

The event is sponsored by J.P. Morgan Chase, Lincoln Financial Group, the state’s Small Business and Technology Development Center and the Weaver Foundation of Greensboro.

This year’s conference will be preceded on Feb. 10 by a one-day conference bringing together social entrepreneurs from across North Carolina to share ideas and strategies to develop stronger community capacity for social entrepreneurship. The event will be the first of its kind in North Carolina.
