N.C. A&T Theater Arts Program to Introduce
New Holiday Musical

For the annual holiday production, the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at North Carolina A&T State University will perform, The First Noel, A New Musical – a show co-written and directed by an alumnus of the program, Dec. 3-6 in the Paul Robeson Theatre.

The First Noel was commissioned by the Classical Theatre of Harlem by Lelund Durond Thompson ’03 and Jason Michael Webb who co-wrote the book, music and lyrics. The production will be performed at N.C. A&T by a special arrangement. The Classical Theatre of Harlem will perform the musical at the world-famous Apollo Theater, Dec. 11-31.

The show follows three generations of a family who have been affected by the tragic loss of a loved one. As they struggle to keep the family together an unexpected visit reveals some long-absent Christmas joy.

This new musical is filled with inspirational soulful songs that will leave audiences clapping and shouting in the aisles. Christmas carols are reimagined as dynamic new songs, destined to become holiday favorites for a new generation.

Thompson will direct the A&T production. He is the founder of YellaFella Entertainment and currently serves as artistic associate for the Classical Theatre of Harlem. Webb is a two-time Stellar Award® nominee and Dove Award® winner. His Broadway credits include associate musical director of Memphis, Motown: The Musical and Violet. He is currently the musical director of the Broadway revival of The Color Purple.
