Gogo Lomo-David ‘13

Alumnus Ready to Shine in Tinseltown

Just more than two years after graduation from North Carolina A&T State University, Gogo Lomo-David ‘13 has appeared in two feature-length films, a short film and two TV series. One of his latest appearances was on the CBS show, “Zoo.”

“Zoo was amazing,” he said. “I was teaching drama at a local dance studio and had just given them a one-month notice. I was sitting in my car and I got an email from my agent about the audition and I thought, ‘What is this Zoo?’ Then I saw CBS and SAG (Screen Actors Guild, a labor union for actors) so I knew this was legitimate.”

The part called for an actor of Nigerian decent. Lomo-David is Nigerian American and the Nigerian accent is one of the three in which he specializes. With the audition due the following day, Lomo-David recorded his audition.

“I went down to New Orleans and we filmed June 18-19,” he said. “It was exciting because as an actor, you work so hard for those opportunities to get to this point.”

Lomo-David is no stranger to hard work. He graduated summa cum laude with two degrees – a bachelor of fine arts in professional theater from the College of Arts and Sciences and a bachelor of science in management from the School of Business and Economics.

“That work load was normal to me. I had always been a double major so I didn’t know anything different,” he said.

For some, the marriage of theater and business might seem like an unlikely pairing but for Lomo-David, it was natural.

“Every industry is a business and I happen to be in the business of show business. You have to know the business side of what you do as well as your art,” he said.

He credits his work ethic to his experience as a younger student when he was labeled as a slow learner who was medicated for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. He made a decision to “work with it.”

“I didn’t let that stop me from doing what I wanted to do. Things were tough but I found a way to win,” Lomo-David shared. “I learn differently and I had to spend the time to do it.”

Born in Pennsylvania, Lomo-David moved to Greensboro as a baby with his family when his father, Dr. Ewuukgem Lomo-David accepted a job as a professor in the School of Business and Education at N.C. A&T. And his Aggieland connection doesn’t stop there. His mother is a graduate of A&T and his brother is a two-time graduate. While A&T is without a doubt the “family school,” he wasn’t totally convinced choosing to start his undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

“I discovered quickly that A&T was where I needed to be. When I came, I saw that there were awesome people doing amazing things and they look like me,” he said.

Lomo-David says attending A&T is among the best decisions he has ever made. He’s learned a lot of lessons that he has applied to life.

“A&T taught me to take opportunities as they come because they lead to other opportunities,” he said. “You have your goals, you set off on a path but you always leave room for adjustments.” he said.

As a student, Lomo-David appeared in 10 shows at the Paul Robeson Theatre and hosted three shows on 90.1 WNAA, including A&T Today. In January, Lomo-David will move to Los Angeles to continue his craft and become a cast member on a reality show called “Hollywood House” that follows 7 actors on their respective journeys to becoming stars.
