The campus of North Carolina A&T State University was abuzz with excitement on March 24, as students, faculty, staff and friends gathered to celebrate the institution’s 125th Anniversary and observe Founders Day through a series of events.
The day included a visit by University of North Carolina System President Margaret Spellings. During her first visit to campus she participated in a full day of 125th anniversary activities including bringing the official greetings on behalf of the UNC System during Founders Day Convocation.
A ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the Deese Clock Tower commenced immediately following Convocation. The tower is named for benefactors Willie A. and Carol C. Deese. Mr. Deese is a former chair of A&T’s Board of Trustees and a graduate of the university’s School of Business and Economics. His lifetime gifts to A&T total nearly $4 million.
The university also hosted the fun-filled Birthday Bash in Aggie Stadium. Free food, games, music from 90.1 WNAA-FM, appearances from the Aggie cheerleaders, mascots and the famous Blue and Gold Marching Machine entertained the crowd and kept the fun going. A fireworks display concluded the festivities. |
