NC A&T Legislation Update

Aggies Advocate Corner – Ray Trapp, Director of External Affairs, NC A&T State University

With a huge AGGIE Pride, I greet all North Carolina A&T State University Alumni!

In what will be my first Aggie Advocate Corner, I want to highlight some key funding awards from the recent legislative session in the North Carolina General Assembly.

Doctoral Research University Funding: We sought and were granted $2.5 million in funding to support the university’s transition to our status as a doctoral-granting research university.

Cheatham-White Scholarships: Legislators approved $1.5 million in funding for the new Cheatham-White Scholarship program at North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central University. These monies will support full scholarship awards for 20 academically, high-achieving undergraduate students at A&T in the coming academic year.

Both of these funding awards are tremendous strides in advancing our university’s mission. We will continue to advocate for the needed resources and policies to remain a top-tier university in the UNC system.

As we move forward, I will be reaching out and leaning on our vast network of alumni to be true Aggie Advocates and share our legislative priorities to key decision makers. We must continue to show our elected officials and policy makers that North Carolina A&T State University is a true leader in higher education as we continue to build towards our stated goals in our strategic plan; “A&T Preeminence 2020: Embracing Our Past, Creating Our Future.”

I look forward to sharing more with you all over the coming months and if I can be of any assistance in any of your federal, state or local government needs, please let me know.
