SIX SIGMA EXAM REVIEW COURSE
TO BE OFFERED ONLINE
The Office of Continuing Education at North Carolina A&T State University and the Central North Carolina Section of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) will offer Principles of Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) online, Nov. 28 through Feb. 29, 2012.
Six Sigma is a results oriented approach to quality management using a disciplined methodology for developing and delivering high quality products and services. It uses the application of scientific method to process improvement.
The online CSSBB refresher course will help students prepare for the ASQ certification examination that will be held in March 2012. The CSSBB curriculum follows the ASQ Body of Knowledge and awards Continuing Education Units (CEU), a nationally recognized standard of measure for non-credit learning activities.
Other courses in the quality series that are set to start in 2012 include Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), which will be offered both face-to-face and online. The traditional face-to-face class will be held on two Saturdays: Feb. 11 and 25, 2012. The online course will be offered Feb. 1–Feb. 29, 2012. Principles of Quality Engineering (CQE) will be held on Thursdays, Feb. 16–May 31, 2012. Principles of Quality Auditing (CQA) is scheduled for Thursdays, April 5–May 31, 2012

CONFERENCE TO FOCUS ON
RESILIENCE, RENEWAL FOR FAMILIES IN TRAUMA
The sixth annual Fall Family Counseling Conference, in conjunction with the annual Disability Awareness Week observance, will be held at North Carolina A&T State University, Nov. 17–18, in Proctor Hall and Corbett Sports Center.
The conference theme is “Families and Trauma: Fostering Resilience and Renewal,” and the Disability Awareness Week observance will focus on disability and the family.
Offerings on Thursday, Nov. 17, include a graduate student poster session, a luncheon and afternoon breakout sessions on families and disabilities. The keynote address will be given at 6:30 p.m. by Mildred Muhammad, a domestic violence survivor, national advocate, author of Scared Silent, and former wife of John Allen Muhammad, the convicted and executed sniper who terrorized the Washington, D.C., metro region in 2002. After years of silence, she speaks openly about her day-to-day experiences as a survivor of domestic violence and how it affected her three children.
The sessions on Friday, Nov. 18, include presentations on trauma, intensive care, domestic violence, and a panel discussion led by Muhammad.

TO PROVIDE TRAINING FOR
SMALL CONSTRUCTION FIRMS
N.C. A&T State University will offer the Construction Contractor Certificate Program (CCCP) on 10 Saturdays beginning Dec. 3 and ending Feb. 26, 2012. The theme is “Building Profitable Construction Businesses in North Carolina.”
Classes will meet 9 a.m.–3 p.m. in the North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development (NCIMED) Plan and Resource Center in Price Hall, room 112-M, at A&T.
Sponsored by the A&T’s School of Business and Economics, School of Technology and Office of Continuing Studies in partnership with NCIMED, and funded by the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Office of Business Opportunity and Workforce Development, CCCP is for all construction-related firms, construction managers, owners and consultants including highway, commercial and residential contractors. The program will provide practical and real-world training to business owners that can be put into practice immediately.
The registration fee is $300. A nonrefundable deposit of $100 is required at the time of registration, and the deadline to register is Saturday, Nov. 26. An installment payment option is being offered. The remaining balance can be paid in two $100 payments on or before Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, and Friday, Jan. 13, 2012.
