FLL, FTC STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEYS TO BE HELD ON CAMPUS

FIRST LEGO League

The FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and FIRST TECH Challenge (FTC) state championship tournaments will be held in Corbett Sports Center, Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 17–18, and Saturday, Feb. 14, respectively.more

Combined campaign extended

The University Employees Campaign (UEC) and the State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC) for 2014-15 have been extended to Tuesday, Dec. 9. Currently, the campaign has achieved about 60 percent of the $250,000 goal. No gift is too small.

Staff forum

The N.C. A&T Staff Senate will have its fall forum, “Extra, Extra, Hear the News,” Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The meeting will convene in the Academic Classroom Building, room 101. Food will be served.

Digital display protocol

The electronic display boards located throughout campus hold only a limited amount of information and are not designed to host every activity or event scheduled in R25. Send submissions to be considered for inclusion via email to the University Event Center (UEC), uec@ncat.edu, at least two weeks prior to the event. The information is posted at the discretion of the UEC.

Blackboard® spring course shells

Spring 201520 course shells are now available to instructors in Blackboard®. Even though the courses are designated as “Unavailable,” instructors have full access to them. For inquiries about teaching assignments, instructors should contact the respective academic departmental office.

Student course access will be managed system-wide as outlined below:
- Dec. 22: Fall 201510 courses will be made “Unavailable”
- Jan. 6, 2015: Spring 201520 courses will be made “Available”

 

Instructors are asked not to make the spring courses available while the current semester is in session.

HPLS orientation

The Department of Human Performance and Leisure Studies will host its Spring New Graduate Student Orientation at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, in Corbett Sports Center, room 101. Students will receive an overview of the graduate program in which they have been formally admitted, meet with their academic advisors and the department chairman and register for courses. Toastmasters

The Progressive Toastmaster meeting is held every Wednesday, 5:45–6:45 p.m., in the General Classroom Building, room A116. A team of N.C. A&T faculty members and administrators has developed an action plan to advance the development of the university’s undergraduate research program. The plan was created at an advanced topical institute, funded by the National Science Foundation and held at the University of San Diego, to provide strategies and best practices to institutionalize undergraduate research and connect undergraduate research with other high-impact practices.

Dr. Jagannathan “Jag” Sankar

Dr. Jagannathan “Jag” Sankar, director of Engineering Research Center for Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials (ERC-RMB) and Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering, has been recognized by the Triad Business Journal as one of the “Triad’s Most Influential” People for 2015. Sankar has been named to this notable list for the seventh year in a row.

 

In its seventh year, the National Science Foundation’s ERC-RMB conducts collabo­rative research in the areas of biomedical engineering and nano-bio applications in part­nership with an international collaboration of universities. Sankar has led efforts in positioning N.C. A&T as a leader in innovative advanced materials research, nanoengineering activities and transformational biomedical implant technologies through the ERC - RMB. The author of more than 400 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and scientific papers, Sankar has generated more than $45 million in competitive research funding at A&T.
