Dr. Cathy Kea, professor of special education, has been appointed to the IRIS Center Steering Committee for five years. The IRIS Center is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). Headquartered at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., and Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, Calif., the center’s primary objective is to create and infuse resources about evidence-based practices into pre-service preparation and professional development programs. To facilitate this process, IRIS disseminates and offers trainings on those resources. The steering committee is charged with helping the center to prioritize module and case study content and otherwise guide the center’s work to ensure that our mission stays on track. Committee members also foster partnerships with their organizations or agencies with the purpose of leveraging resources.
