Last Chance to Give

The Faculty and Staff Combined Campaign ends Monday, Dec. 7. For your convenience, there will be four locations on campus to drop off your completed UEC and SECC forms, receive coffee and donuts, and have an opportunity to win an A&T afghan, elite chair, stadium seat or round table. The designated times and locations are 7:30–10 a.m., Craig Hall and Dowdy Building lobbies, and 2–3:30 p.m., Fort IRC and Student Health Center lobbies.

Donations and pledges are still needed to achieve the cumulative goal of $275,000. Remember, contributions designated for scholarships through the UEC will also count toward the university’s goal to raise $1.25 million for A&T student scholarships during the observance of its 125th anniversary this academic year. For more information, contact Joyce Edwards, SECC chair, at 336-334-7755 or edwardsj@ncat.edu, or Carletta Simmons, UEC chair, 336-334-7600 or gcsimmon@ncat.edu.

125 Service Projects

As a land-grant university, N.C. A&T has a special responsibility to strategically partner with groups and individuals locally, nationally and globally to make a lasting, positive impact on social and environmental challenges that proactively respond to the needs of others. As an extension of the university’s commitment, and as part of the university’s 125th anniversary observance, a challenge has been issued to all students, alumni, faculty and staff to actively participate in a service project in their respective communities. For information on how to have your service project designated as part of the celebration, visit www.ncat.edu/125/service-projects.html.

On Nov. 13, Drs. Connie Bishop, Evelyn Hoover and Cynthia Shores, faculty members in the School of Nursing, presented posters at the Fourth Annual Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Symposium: Driving Nursing Research and Advancing Nursing Science: Research Implications for the Future. Bishop, informatics professor, presented “The Use of a Standardized Clinical Information System Evaluation Tool to Guide Planning and Implementation of an Ambulatory EMR”; Hoover, community health professor, presented “Relationships Among Functional Health Literacy, Asthma Knowledge, and the Ability to Care for Asthmatic Children”; and Shores, presented “Putting the Pieces Together,” which received the third place poster award for the Evidence-Based Practice category.

Greensboro Area Health Education Center and the Cone Health Nursing Research Council co-sponsored the event. Over 315 registered nurses attended this symposium that included 40 poster presentations.

Dr. Harold L. Martin Sr.

Dr. Harold L. Martin Sr., chancellor, has been named to the 2015 EBONY Power 100. Each year EBONY magazine and Johnson Publishing Company celebrate 100 of the world’s most influential African Americans who lead, inspire and demonstrate through their individual talents the best in Black America.

Martin is one of six honorees in this year’s Master Teachers category. According to EBONY, “Upholding the legacy of a 125-year-old historically Black university requires great vision, wisdom and dynamic leadership—qualities that many would use to describe Harold Martin. The first former student to lead the university, Martin has been chancellor of North Carolina A&T State University since 2009 and has worked to maintain the institution’s status as one of the nation’s top homes for land grant scholarships and to preserve its ranking of third within the University of North Carolina system in sponsored research funding.”

The Power 100 were honored Dec. 2, in Los Angeles.

A&T State University Register Student Newspaper as a Classroom and Scholarly Resource.” The Register is over 100 years old and is digitized, dating back to 1915, and is a Bluford Library archival resource. Lastly, Ndege presented a paper on African Influences in New Orleans (her hometown) at the 100th anniversary of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), which was in Atlanta this fall.
