OneID
Information Technology Services (ITS) is introducing OneID, a streamlined technology that will allow employees and students to use a single user ID and password to access university services such as email, wireless, Blackboard, etc., as well as provide the ability to log in to a single website to change passwords or recover accounts in the event of forgotten passwords. Beginning Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, employees and students can register security questions for their OneID accounts. ITS also will begin to email selected users prompting them to update their password. Recipients of this email will be required to change their password every 90 days. Failure to change the password will cause an interruption in the ability to login to the university's services. Visit http://oneid.ncat.edu for more details.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 29.1 million people have diabetes and 1 out of 4 are unaware they have type 1 diabetes. Another 86 million have prediabetes and 9 out of 10 do not know they have it. People with prediabetes are at increased risk for developing serious health problems such as type 2 diabetes, stroke and heart disease. African Americans are nearly twice as likely to die from diabetes.

As a land-grant university, N.C. A&T has a special responsibility to strategically partner with groups and individuals locally, nationally and globally to make a lasting, positive impact on social and environmental challenges that proactively respond to the needs of others. As an extension of the university’s commitment, and as part of the university’s 125th anniversary observance, a challenge has been issued to all students, alumni, faculty and staff to actively participate in a service project in their respective communities. Martin Luther King Jr. Day service projects may be used toward the 125th anniversary projects; however, they must be approved as 125th anniversary projects prior to being conducted. Get approval and register projects online. For information on how to have your service project designated as part of the celebration, visit www.ncat.edu/125/service-projects.html.
Dr. Shengmin Sang, professor and lead scientist for functional foods, has been awarded a patent for a family of novel aspirin-derived compounds that could be useful in treating or preventing colon cancer, heart disease and other disorders. The patent could mean that more patients may one day be able to receive the benefits of aspirin without incurring adverse side effects. Sang developed the new compounds at the university’s Center for Excellence in Post-Harvest Technologies at the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis.
Tests on colon-cancer cell lines showed that the novel compounds, containing both aspirin and bioactive phytochemicals, were more effective at inducing cancer-cell death than any of the individual components used alone or physically mixed. Sang describes his findings in the study, “Novel Resveratrol-based Aspirin Prodrugs: Synthesis, Metabolism and Anticancer Activity,” which was recently published in the "Journal of Medicinal Chemistry." Funding for this and other studies that gave rise to the patent came from the National Institutes of Health and the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.
