This year’s Faculty Excellence Awards for excellence in teaching went to nine individuals.more

Reminder: Collapse of state funds

State fund budgets will be collapsed effective Friday, May 15. All state fund requisitions must be in AGGIE-MART no later than close of business May 15, at which time the requisitioning process will be disabled for state funds. In addition, procurement card purchases should not be made on state funds after May 15.

 

Budget accounts exempt from collapse are travel (73100), communications (73200) and maintenance (74400). Overhead receipts, contracts and grants, and campus enterprises fund budgets also are not affected.

 

For complete details as well as the closeout dates of requisitions, purchase orders, the final check cycle, travel reimbursements, deposits and petty cash reimbursements, refer to the memorandum sent to the university community on April 20, or contact the Office of Budget and Planning in the Division of Business and Finance, at 336-334-3827.

Elections

Staff Senate elections for 2015-2016 are underway and will be conducted through May 15. To vote, click here and follow the prompts. Vote only once and only for employees in your division. Division descriptions are provided on the ballot. Elected senators and alternates will be contacted Monday, May 18 to confirm their division and position acceptance.

Summer athletics camps

Registration is open for basketball camps for boys, ages 7–14, with a on fundamental skills taught through individual instruction and a variety of drills. Camp dates, times and location are June 22–26, 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m., in Corbett Sports Center. The nonrefundable cost to attend is $110, if paid before June 15, and $125 after. The Lady Aggies will host three basketball camps for girls. Elite Camp will be offered June 21 for athletes in grades 9–12 who are looking to elevate their game. Day Camp for younger athletes, grades 2–9, will focus on fundamental skills and basketball knowledge, July 13–16. High school teams (grades 9–12) that want to grow together and compete against high-level offseason competition are invited to Team Camp, June 27–28. Click here for more information and to register. Summer Volleyball Camp will be held in Moore Gym July 17–19 for boys and girls ages 12–18. The registration fee is $250 for resident campers and $200 for commuters. N.C. A&T employees can receive $20 off. A $20 discount is also available to eight players or more from the same team. Click here for details.

Dr. Corey GravesDr. Corey Graves, associate professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, and graduate students Timothy Negron, Michael Chestnut II and Gabriel Popoola, co-authored an article, “Studying Smart Spaces Using an Ubiquitous Computing Analogy,” this is published in the April issue of IEEE Pervasive Computing Mobile and Ubiquitous Systems Magazine, pp. 64-68.

 

Graves and electrical engineering graduate student Shelby Kilgore published “Processing Pre-Existing Connect-the-Dots Puzzles for Educational Repurposing Applications,” in the March 2015 issue of Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Communications.

Dr. Cathy KeaDr. Cathy Kea, professor of Special Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, attended the National Council for Exceptional Children 2015 convention in San Diego, April 7-11. Kea, along with three colleagues from Fordham University, the University of California-Monterrey Bay and the University of Virginia-Charlottesville, conducted a daylong pre-conference workshop, Culturally Responsive Teaching: What Does It Look Like?! Kea also was a panelist for the Division for Research, where she presented “Preparing Culturally Responsive Researchers.”
