Gift of Scholarship
The 125th anniversary of the establishment of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University marks a tremendous milestone. As we reflect on a rich history and celebrate numerous achievements, we must also continue to strengthen our future by investing in the education of our students.
To commemorate this milestone, the university has established a goal of raising $1.25 million for student scholarships during the year. Gifts made toward any scholarship will be counted. Additionally, an anonymous donor has pledged to match – dollar for dollar – gifts designated to any scholarship fund up to $125,000 from first-time alumni donors. These funds will enable us to honor our Aggie Pride and support the future of this great institution and the students it serves.
For information on how to give to the 125th anniversary scholarship, visit http://www.ncat.edu/giving/give-now.html.

James T. Griffin, purchasing specialist in the Office of Facilities and chair of the Staff Senate, has become the second N.C. A&T employee in as many years to receive the Erksine B. Bowles Staff Service Award presented by the UNC Board of Governors. Griffin will receive the award at the Board of Governors meeting, Sept. 18, at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem. He was nominated by a fellow staffer for being a “proven energetic leader with integrity” whose leadership helped facilitate a community service committee on the Staff Senate that developed a partnership with the Greensboro Farmers Market.
The Erskine B. Bowles Staff Service Award is presented by the board of governors to a permanent staff member of one of the 17 institutions and university affiliate groups who demonstrates exceptional customer service; provides extraordinary assistance by providing additional help outside of normal job responsibilities throughout campus and surrounding communities; displays selfless acts of giving to campus and community events; and whose creativity and impact greatly exceed normal accomplishments of a staff employee.
Griffin has been an employee at A&T for nearly 13 years. In that time he has grown the university’s campus footprint by more than 35 acres and has served his fellow staff members on the staff senate as parliamentarian, vice chairman and is in his second term as chairman.

Nieman, professor in the Department of English, has been published as part of the Lament for the Dead, an online community poetry project that will mark the death of every person killed by police this summer, and every police officer that loses life in the line of duty, with a poem.
