A Baseball and Softball Player Earn Weekly MEAC Honors

Senior southpaw Estarlin Paulino of the North Carolina A&T baseball team garnered MEAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, for his performance during the span of April 2-8.

Paulino tossed a season-high 8 innings and fanned a season-high 11 batters on April 7 in A&T's 8-1 win.  He fell one strikeout shy of matching the career-best he set on April 17, 2010, against UMES. The 11 K's were also the most by an A&T pitcher this season.  Paulino allowed one run and did not walk a single batter, while helping propel the Aggies to their fourth straight win.

Paulino is now 4-3 on the season with a 3.83 ERA in eight starts.  He is first on the team with 39 strikeouts and is first on the team with 49.1 innings pitched.  He holds a 25-16 career record with 268 career strikeouts in 313 innings.

One week prior, Detavia Kenan also earned MEAC Softball Player of the Week honors. When there are only 12 players on a softball team, there is a good chance a reserved will be called upon to contribute. She earned that opportunity against Maryland Eastern Shore on March 22.

Kenan sat until the fifth inning when the Aggies loaded the bases in a tie ballgame. Head coach Mamie Jones put Kenan in as a pinch-hitter. Kenan responded with an RBI single that gave the Aggies the lead and eventually led to a 7-3 victory in the first game of the doubleheader. Kenan went 4-for-4 with four RBI in the game, including a three-run home run as A&T completed the sweep of UMES with an 11-5 win. Kenan was also 1-for-3 with a run scored against UNC Greensboro during the week.

For the week, Kenan hit two home runs, a triple and six RBI.
