A&T Offers Youth Enrichment Camps

The Office of K-20 Engagement and Professional Development at North Carolina A&T State University will host seven weeks of enrichment camps for students in first-12th grades.

Several, one-week camps focused on arts, sciences, technology and business are available.  Students will get hands-on experience in various areas such as theater, animation sewing, robotics, principles of biotechnology and crime scene investigation.

All camps have qualified teachers and professors to help the students through these innovative and academically challenging programs.

Friday marks the end of week one which included camps in the Paul Robeson Theatre to help first-fifth graders develop their talents on and off-stage. There was also a health and sports fitness camp for first-fifth graders this week. Students got a chance to participate in flag football, basketball, softball, volleyball, soccer, tennis and other sports.

Sixth-eighth grade campers got to choose from three camps during the first week. The first option was an introduction to sewing where campers learned the basics of hand and machine stitching as well as garment construction. Other campers participated in a robotics camp where they learned to construct and program a robot using the NXT Mindstorm Kit. The remaining campers learned how to create their own website. Campers learned about color theory, creative text effects and graphics.

Upcoming camps for elementary school students, first-fifth grades, include “Cartoon Drawing and Animation,” “Is There an Animal Doctor in the House” and “Robotics.” Middle school campers can look forward to “3D Animation,” “Aggie CSI,” “Kids-N-Business” and “Project Runway,” an advanced sewing camp.

High school camps will begin in late June and all have a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) focus. The camps include: “Renewable Energy,” “High School Robotics,” “Digi Techs,” “Biotechnology” and “Girls in Science.”
