Student leaders from the Student Government Association, the Student Union Advisory Board, the Residence Hall Association, the Pan-Hellenic Council and the Council of Presidents convened at Camp Caraway outside of Asheboro to plan for the coming school year.
“The purpose of the retreat was for the big five organizations to establish a relationship and understand everyone’s role in how we help the university,” SGA president Allahquan Tate said.
For one week, the student leaders got to meet various university faculty and staff members to get a crash course in the business of student affairs.
The students also created the master calendar of events for the 2012-13 school year.
“I’m very confident about next year – your alma mater is in great hands,” Tate says to alumni.
“We have a vision and you will be proud of how it will be brought to fruition.”
The five groups were able to work together this year to provide the necessary support to each other without the bulk of the responsibility falling on the same two organizations, Tate said.
“There was more collaboration and understanding. It was a lot more cohesive than it has been in the past,” he said.
