Todd to Speak at Phi Kappa Phi Initiation and Banquet Ceremony

The honor society of Phi Kappa Phi at North Carolina A&T State University will have its initiation and banquet ceremony 5 p.m. Sunday April 14, at the Memorial Student Union – Stallings Ballroom. The keynote speaker for the event will be Dr. Mary Todd, executive director of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.

“This event will mark the 10th anniversary of our chapter,” said Dr. Barbra Mosley, president of the N.C. A&T Chapter 291 Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.” “ At the ceremony, we will pay special tribute to our original charter members.”

Todd is the first woman to lead the 115-year-old honor society and the 11th person to hold the position since 1900. In 1993 at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Todd was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi. She would later lead a petition to bring a chapter of the organization to Marshall University where she was founding dean of the Honors College from 2009-2012. In addition, she served as the primary contact for Phi Kappa Phi at Marshall since the chapter’s installation in 2010.

Prior to her position at Marshall, she served for five years as vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Ohio Dominican University. She previously taught at Concordia University-Chicago, Roosevelt University, University of Illinois at Chicago and Dominican University.

Todd earned a B.A. degree in history from Valparaiso University, a master of general studies from Roosevelt University and a Ph.D. in American history from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest, largest and most selective all-discipline honor society. Phi Kappa Phi differs from most other honor societies because it draws its members from all academic disciplines. Those selected to membership include the top 7.5 percent of second semester juniors and the top 10 percent of seniors, along with outstanding graduate students, faculty, professional staff and alumni.
Last year, A&T was named a Phi Kappa Phi Chapter of Excellence.
