Women’s tennis senior April Burrage received the 2012-13 Chancellor’s Award for Academic Excellence and junior women’s basketball player Tracy King earned the Outstanding Honors Student award from the School of Technology at the North Carolina A&T State University Student Honors Convocation at Richard B. Harrison Auditorium.

The university also recognized the undergraduate honor students who held a 3.25 GPA and above, which included 67 student-athletes.

Burrage will graduate in May with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average and a bachelor’s degree in marketing. She is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society and Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honors Society. Burrage, who is attending A&T as a Dowdy Scholar, plans to work for an insurance brokerage firm in her hometown of Chicago following graduation. She will negotiate commercial insurance contracts.

"It was a great honor to receive the Chancellor's Academic Award,” Burrage said. “I love my institution and it feels great to be recognized by the chancellor," she said.

King is a graphic communications major who holds a 3.93 GPA. She is a member of the University Honors Program at A&T. King is the current president of the Student Athlete Advisory Council. In addition to her community service projects with SAAC, she gives back to the community as a tutor at Hampton Elementary and a volunteer with Special Olympics Guilford/Greensboro. She also works as an academic coach on campus, mentoring A&T freshmen who have low academic scores. She plans to work as a graphic designer at ESPN after graduating in May 2014. King helped the Aggies to their first 20-win season and appearance in the MEAC tournament semifinal in four years.

"As I always say, my academic success is my first priority,” said King. “I am so honored and humbled to have received this award because it reminds me that my hard work is paying off. Approaching the end of my junior year excites me because I know that these past three years have prepared me for my future career and goals.”
