North Carolina A&T State University is again participating in The Home Depot's "Retool Your School" campus improvement grant program, which was established to provide support for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The Home Depot will award one major grant of $50,000, 14 minor grants of $10,000 and a Campus Pride grant of $25,000. The Campus Pride grant will be based solely on the HBCU that receives the most online votes and social media participation.
“N.C. A&T and other colleges and universities across the country are currently facing difficult financial constraints. The “Retool Your School” competition provides an opportunity to bring additional funds to our institution,” said Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr.
The grant will allow A&T to:
- Major Grant ($50,000): Renovate the restrooms at Aggie Stadium. This includes installing sinks and solid surface countertops along with maintenance closets and other needed improvements in all restrooms at Aggie Stadium.
- Minor Grant ($10,000): Create a student oasis or “green space” in the main North-South campus walking path where Price Hall Annex was recently demolished. The project will be designed by a university landscape architectural class and will include native plants, trees, benches and fountains.
- Campus Pride ($25,000): A&T’s landscape architectural class will enhance the design for the area where Price Hall Annex was demolished to include additional options to improve the area where students can spend time between classes outside in a natural outdoor setting.
