Dr. Yusuf G. Adewuyi, professor of chemical and bioengineering in the department of chemical biological and bioengineering at North Carolina A&T State University, has been elected as a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

Fellowship in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers represents the highest grade of membership in the 45,000-member organization, which is dedicated to promoting excellence in chemical engineering through advancing career development, education and professional standards. The election recognizes Adewuyi’s distinctive accomplishments and contributions to chemical engineering.

Adewuyi earned his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Ohio University cum laude and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in chemical and biochemical engineering from the University of Iowa. Prior to joining N.C. A&T in 1994, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at Boston College and the University of Illinois in Urbana and senior staff/ research engineer at Mobil Research and Development Corporation.

He is the past president of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE Triad Section, Secretary of the AIChE Environmental Division and Chair of AIChE Minority Affairs Committee (MAC). He received the MAC's Excellence and Service Award in 2005 and Distinguished Service Award in 2006. He received A&T's 2010 College of Engineering Senior Researcher of the Year Award and Chemical Engineering Teacher of the Year Award in 1994 and 1997. He is serving as an editorial board member of three journals and reviewer of over 25 reputed journals.
