Blue and Gold Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Aggie students, faculty and staff are encouraged to go pink for the 3rd annual breast cancer awareness day walk, rally and luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 17.

The walk will start at 11:30 a.m. from the Sebastian Health Center located on the campus of North Carolina A&T. Participants will walk through campus and convene at the “pink” fountain behind the Memorial Student Union. The first 150 registered attendees will be invited to receive lunch at 12:00 p.m. in the Memorial Student Union, Exhibit Hall.

“The health center’s mission is to help save lives by increasing awareness of breast cancer through our Wellness and Health Education departments and through our annual cancer campus walk to the pink fountain on campus donated by the office of facilities,” said Executive Director of Sebastian Health Center, Linda R. Wilson.

Sebastian Health Center began the awareness day in 2010. Since its inception there have been over 500 participants.

“Breast Cancer Awareness Day is North Carolina A&T State University's annual commitment to imparting facts about a serious disease that affects many families on our campus and across the nation,” Wilson added.

“It is our job as health care professionals to inform the university community about the importance of early detection and pre-screenings. On Breast Cancer Awareness Day we also rally together to support researchers, organizations and those affected by breast cancer, said Linda R. Wilson, Executive Director of Sebastian Health Center,” she said.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed and some 40,000 will die.
