Darius Blanding, a junior biology and pre-med student at North Carolina A&T State University was selected as a Tom Joyner School of the Month Hercules Scholar.
The Manning, S.C. native is an honor student with a cumulative grade point average of 3.95.
While at North Carolina A&T Blanding has been a Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholar, a member of the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students and the Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society. He has also been active in the Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society and the Student University Activities Board.
N.C. A&T is the Tom Joyner School of the Month for October 2013. During this month the university and the Tom Joyner Foundation are working to raise funds for student scholarships. As a part of this campaign, each week the foundation selects a male student with a grade point average of at least 3.5 to receive a $1,500 scholarship. The students who are selected demonstrate campus leadership and community involvement.
The scholarship is paid directly to recipient’s school to help offset their college expenses.
