| Contra -Tiempo, the international urban Latin dance theater, will make their way to North Carolina A&T State University on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Harrison Auditorium.
Contra Tiempo is a dance company that originated in Los Angeles, Calif. Ana Maria Alvarez, founder of Contra-Tiempo, created the company to change the world through dance. Contra Tiempo is now one of the leading international dance companies in the U.S. touring throughout various cities in the U.S and Latin America.
Carl Baker, the executive director of the Memorial Student Union and co-chair of the 2013-2014 Lyceum Series, believes that Contra Tiempo will expose students and Greensboro community members to a world of culture and diversity.
“The show (Contra-Tiempo) is putting on for our students is a top of the line production,” said Baker.
“Everything from the lighting to the attire is intentional. The amount of time and effort down to the very last detail has been carefully choreographed to perfection. This show is equivalent to a Broadway show that has been brought to North Carolina,” he said.
Contra- Tiempo is grounded in Salsa and Afro-Cuban and incorporates urban hip-hop and Dance Theater styles.
Tickets for North Carolina A&T students are free with Aggie One Card and $5 for faculty and staff. General public tickets are $15. Tickets are available at the university’s Ticket Office located at Brown Hall. For tickets call (336) 334-7749.
