Junior Class Establishes Book Voucher Fund

The Junior Class Council of the Student Government Association has established a university wide book voucher fund. On Feb. 10, the class of 2015 announced that their senior gift to the university is a fund that will provide current students with the opportunity to earn a scholarship for books. The class established a goal of $2,000 for the Blueprint Book Voucher Fundraiser to fund four $500 book vouchers each semester.

“There are times when I can’t afford books. So for (many) students, being able to afford that one book could lead them to a successful career,” said Dorian Davis, president of the Junior Class Council.

Davis was inspired by the Delta Sigma Theta Scholarship Ball and the Dennis Hayle Scholarship Ball, both of which are held on A&T’s campus. After sharing his idea to create a scholarship with the class executive board, Davis was directed to the Division of University Advancement.

Carletta Simmons, director of annual giving, and LaShawndra White, the university’s annual giving call center manager, worked with Davis to create the class fund.

“It wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. One thing that we were worried about was if students would continue to give back after graduation,” Davis said. “That’s why we wanted to start in our junior year and not our senior year.”

To help the Junior Class Council meet its goal, you can make a tax-deductible gift by visiting www.ncat.edu, click on "Give to A&T" and then "Online Giving.” Select 14CF2015 as the solicitation code and "Class of 2015 Fund" as the designation. Donors can also give over the phone by calling 336.334.7600 locally or toll free at 888.248.2821. Gifts can be made on campus in the Office of Advancement, located in the Dowdy Administration Building, suite 400.

“When the class of 2015 graduates, we still want to have a bond with the class on 2016, 2020, 2030 and everyone that comes along. We want to pour into our university and really make a difference,” added Davis.
