N.C. A&T to Hold Research Symposium to Honor Ronald McNair

The Ronald E. McNair 28th Annual Celebration and 12th Annual Research Symposium will be held Jan. 26-28 at North Carolina A&T State University. The research symposium provides undergraduate and graduate students from around the country the opportunity to present research in oral and poster competitions.

This year’s research focus is STEM—science, technology, engineering and mathematics, however research presentations in other fields of study will be accepted.

North Carolina A&T students are offered a chance to network with students, faculty and staff from across the country. An integral part of the symposium is the graduate recruitment fair which will take place on Monday, Jan. 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the Memorial Student Union. This event makes the symposium a prime opportunity for students to gain information about graduate schools and display their skills to recruiters. Participants also have the opportunity to attend professional workshops in diverse areas of study.

“I see it as a platform for us to showcase our students, what they are capable of doing and that they are able to compete with the best,” said symposium chair Dr. Bertrand Haynes.

The university uses this celebration as a way to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Ronald McNair-a great African-American scientist and alum who was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA. McNair died on January 28, 1986 when the Challenger space shuttle exploded after launch.

This year’s symposium will feature speakers- Dr. Calvin Mackie, managing partner at Channel ZerO Group, LLC and Dr. Julian Earls, executive in residence at Cleveland State University Director and NASA Glenn Research Center. Dr. Robin N. Coger, Dean of College of Engineering and Dr. Barry Burks, Dean of Division of Research from North Carolina A&T State University will also speak.

This two-day event will be filled with a wealth of educational enrichment, challenges and encouragement for all who participate in the event. For additional information click here.
