Every year, the Triad Business Journal recognizes an elite group of leaders as the Triad’s most influential people. This year, as in years before, N.C. A&T is well represented.
The list of 113 people includes 10 with significant A&T connections:
- George Clopton, member of the A&T Board of Visitors and corporate vice president, supply chain operations, Ralph Lauren;
- Henry Frye, A&T alum and now of counsel, law firm of Brooks Pierce McLendon Humphrey & Leonard in Greensboro;
- Shirley Frye, A&T alum and chair of the Joseph M. Bryan Foundation of Greensboro;
- Ed Kitchen, member of the A&T Board of Visitors and vice president and chief operating officer, Joseph M. Bryan Foundation;
- Chancellor Harold L. Martin, Sr.;
- Tim Rice, A&T trustee and CEO emeritus, Cone Health of Greensboro;
- Jim Ryan, dean of the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering;
- Jagannathan Sankar, N.C. A&T distinguished professor of mechanical engineering and director of the NSF Engineering Research Center for Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials, A&T’s largest-ever research project;
- Ralph Shelton, A&T alum and founder and chairman of Southeast Fuels; and
- Susan Schwartz, member of the A&T Board of Visitors and executive director, The Cemala Foundation of Greensboro.
As the traditional manufacturing industry continues to decline, Greensboro is becoming increasingly defined by its seven institutions of higher education. A&T’s 10,700 students, 2,000-plus employees, and 48,000 alumni are a major force in setting the course of the city and the region. |
