Williams Appointed as Dean of Students

Marc J. Williams has been named the dean of students and associate vice chancellor for the Division of Student Affairs at North Carolina A&T State University, effective Oct. 27.

“We are excited to welcome Marc to the Division of Student Affairs. He brings a wealth of knowledge to this position and will be an asset to our organization,” said Dr. Melody Pierce, vice chancellor for the student affairs.

As the dean of students, Williams’ primary role is to manage student conduct violations, oversee the university judicial system – which includes developing administrative protocols, documents, publications – and adjudication of student conduct. The position is also responsible for the supervision of the health center, counseling center, international students and scholars, as well as multicultural student affairs and veterans and disability support services.

Williams joined the university in June 2008 as the deputy general counsel and was responsible for advising university administrators and the board of trustees on a wide-ranging variety of matters including personnel actions and compliance. He has served as an advisor to other campuses in the UNC System on student issues and faculty tenure decisions.

Before N.C. A&T, Williams worked for the District of Columbia Board of Appeals and Review in Washington, D.C., as a public board member on a two-year term mayoral appointment.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Duke University (1991) and a juris doctor degree from Howard University School of Law (1995). He is a member of the North Carolina Bar, District of Columbia Bar, Greensboro Bar Association, National Association of College and University Attorneys and the Association of Student Conduct Administrators.
