A&T Ranked 25th Globally in Sustainability

For the second straight year, North Carolina A&T has been recognized as a world leader among universities in sustainability. The UI GreenMetric Ranking of World Universities 2014 ranks A&T No. 25 among 360 universities in 62 countries.

The ranking compares universities’ efforts on campus sustainability and environmentally friendly management. It is conducted by Universitas Indonesia, which launched the program in 2010.

This year’s top university is the University of Nottingham in United Kingdom, followed by University College, Cork National University in Ireland and Nottingham Trent University. In fourth place was the top U.S. school, the University of California, Davis.

Three other U.S. schools were among the top 10: the University of Connecticut; the University of California, Berkeley; and Northeastern University.

Other North Carolina universities in the rankings were UNC-Chapel Hill, 12; UNC Greensboro, 27; Appalachian State, 121; and UNC Wilmington, 319.

The results are drawn from information provided by universities online. The main data categories and their weightings are green statistics (15%), energy and climate change (21%), waste management (18%), water usage (10%), transportation (18%), and education (18%).

Universitas Indonesia is a state university with an enrollment of 47,000. It has campuses in Jakarta and Depok.
