Softball Team Volunteers on MLK Day

The N.C. A&T softball team spent Martin Luther King Jr. Day volunteering at Four Seasons Town Centre in Greensboro. The team partnered with The Volunteer Center of Greensboro and Guilford County Schools.

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Aggies and other volunteers dedicated their time to making Valentine’s Day cards for first responders. Other activities included hands-on service projects, a non-profit fair and scavenger hunts with prizes, MLK-inspired performances and a community art project.

The softball team is no stranger to community service under second-year head coach Kenya Peters. They also have volunteered with residents in assisted-living facilities and youth softball teams.

"As a team we try to volunteer with an organization at least once a month to help others and possibly make a difference in someone’s life," Peters says.

"On MLK Day, we assisted the Volunteer Center of Greensboro in making Valentine’s Day cards for our local first responders. It’s always great to give back to those that protect us, whether it’s a smile or a simple thank you.

“We just wanted to let them know we appreciate them."

The Aggies open the 2015 season Friday, Feb. 13, when they host St. Francis at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex at 1:30 p.m.
