Women’s Basketball Team Falls to Chattanooga

The Aggies ran into a team on a hot streak. On Wednesday, Chattanooga beat No. 7-ranked Stanford, 54-46, their second win of the season over ranked teams.

The Aggies reached the title game by beating Tennessee Tech 54-49 on Saturday. In that game, A&T used 11 players, including nine who scored, to shoot a season-best 49 percent (24 of 49) from the field. Ross made it hard for the Golden Eagles (2-9) as she recorded a career-high eight blocks, a team-leading eight rebounds and eight points.

On Sunday, the Aggies (7-5 overall) opened the game with six straight points from redshirt junior Aprill McRae, but the Mocs (9-3) went on a 19-2 tear, giving Chattanooga a 19-8 lead with 9:06 left in the first half.

The Mocs remained ahead, shooting a sizzling 55 percent (11-of-20) from the field and 50 percent (5-of-10) from behind the arc to hold a 32-17 advantage at halftime. The 17 points marked A&T’s fewest first half points of the season.

The Aggies couldn’t seem to find a way to stop UTC, which took its largest lead of the game, 44-21, with less than 15 minutes remaining. After trailing 56-35 with 4:29 remaining, Ross started an 8-2 rally that included six points by her to close out the game.

Ross recorded a game-high 17 points on 8-for-17 shooting and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. McRae added 10 points while Christina Carter and Adriana Nazario finished with four assists each.

The Aggies close out the year by facing Virginia Commonwealth University on Tuesday, Dec. 30 in Richmond. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
