Adams Announces $1.6 Million in Federal Funds for Colleges and Universities 12th District

Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), a member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee and Subcommittee on Higher Education announced more than $1.6 million in federal funding for six colleges and universities in North Carolina’s 12th Congressional District.

The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Education’s TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program and will be used to support the programs initiatives to provide services to foster retention and enhance graduation rates for disadvantaged, low-income and first generation college students. A total of 30 schools, including her alma mater North Carolina A&T State University throughout North Carolina will be awarded funding through the TRIO SSS program.

“I am pleased to announce more than $1.6 million in funds for six colleges and universities in my district,” Adams said. “A degree can open up a world of opportunities and I am glad to know students in North Carolina will be able to access resources that help them succeed. This federal funding is much needed and will help many students who are low-income or first generation, get the support they need to finish out strong.”

In the 12th district, six colleges and universities will receive:

  • Central Piedmont Community College, $264,853
  • Davidson County Community College, $245,015
  • Johnson C. Smith University, $281,306
  • Livingston College, $292,340
  • N.C. A&T, $281,509
  • Winston-Salem State University, $241,707
