Chancellor Martin Expresses Thanks for Passage of Connect NC Bond

A Message From Chancellor Martin

Dear Aggies and Friends,

This primary election season, North Carolina voters reaffirmed their commitment to improve the quality of life for all residents in our state by approving the $2 billion Connect NC bond referendum. The bond will provide critical investments in North Carolina’s university system, community colleges, the National Guard, state parks, and water and sewer systems. North Carolina A&T State University will receive $90 million dollars to construct the Engineering and Research Innovation Complex (ERIC).

The ERIC will benefit N.C. A&T by establishing a much-needed pipeline of diverse leaders in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines to meet global demands and expand our capacity for research and innovation.

In addition, the ERIC will create jobs, attract and retain talent to the city of Greensboro and the Piedmont Triad region, and provide a return on investment that will enlarge A&T’s economic impact footprint of $656.2 million in the region and nearly $1 billion in the state.

As a proud 1890-land grant institution rooted in STEM principles, A&T has consistently ranked as a top producer of African American engineers on the undergraduate level and is the No. 1 ranked public historically black college or university in the nation. As we celebrate our 125th anniversary and reflect on our dynamic legacy, we recognize that this is an investment in the future of our remarkable institution.

I would like to thank Gov. Pat McCrory and the North Carolina General Assembly for their leadership and most important, North Carolina voters. Thank you for voting to invest in the future of North Carolina.

On behalf of the Aggie family, we appreciate your continued support.

Sincerely,
Harold L. Martin, Sr.
Chancellor
