Alumni Honored During Founders Day Celebration

North Carolina A&T State University honored seven alumni with the Alumni Achievement Award during the 125th Anniversary Founders Day Convocation on Thursday, March 24.

The keynote address was delivered by two-time alumnus Dr. Blannie E. Bowen, vice provost for academic affairs at The Pennsylvania State University. Prior to his current post, he served the same university in a variety of positions including head of the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education in the College of Agricultural Sciences and the C. Lee Rumberger and Family Chair of Agriculture.

Honored for their outstanding contributions to their respective professions, communities and the university, the 2016 recipients were: David A. Dowdy ’65 (College of Arts and Sciences); Steven D. Cook ’82 (College of Engineering); Claudette L. Smith ’77 (School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences); James Clausell ’79 (School of Business and Economics); Everette B. Ward ’13 (School of Education); Adeline P. Gracey Washington ’67 (School of Nursing); and Timothy L. Lake ’85 (School of Technology).

While Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr. served as the presiding officer, greetings were extended to the audience from North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory; Greensboro City Councilman Jamal Fox; the University of North Carolina President Margaret Spellings; N.C. A&T Board of Trustee member Venessa Harrison, N.C. A&T National Alumni Association chairwoman Pamela McCorkle-Buncum; and Student Government Association President Austin Ogletree.
