Around 6 p.m., April 21, members of the 2016-17 Executive Board of the Student Government Association officially took the oath of office and the newly minted student body president, Jordan Alexander Greene addressed the audience to reiterate his campaign platform, “All or Nothing.”
“I want to instill in the students that we have to give our all or nothing at all because at the end of the day, we are all Aggies and we are all working toward the same goal of success for A&T,” Greene said.
This will be the Raleigh-native and accounting major’s fourth consecutive year being elected as a student leader. In his first three years, he was elected as president for his class.
“The experiences I’ve had have given me a different perspective,” he said. “I have received feedback for three years and I am going to take all of that and use that in my administration.”
That experience is something that Jasmine Boles and Jeffron Smalls, the new Miss and Mister A&T, will look to guide them during their reign. Boles and Smalls are both industrial systems engineering majors – the first Mister and Miss pair from the College of Engineering – and SGA newcomers with goals to build upon the legacies of their predecessors.
“When I came in as a freshman, I didn’t understand the position. When I thought of Miss A&T, I thought of it like a popularity contest. I didn’t see any value in it,” Boles said. “Then I saw Miss Ambriya Simone Neal stand on stage and introduce herself and I said, ‘I want to be just like her.’ She took her platform and globalized it. Now she is Miss Black Atlanta. I want to do that.”
For Smalls, it was slightly different. The first generation student was not familiar with SGA prior to coming to N.C. A&T. It took meeting friends who were involved to get the information that pushed him to run for Mister Junior last year.
“I said, ‘I want to do something, too’. I did my research and decided to run,” he said. “I made it to run-offs but I didn’t win. This time, I worked on my weaknesses from that campaign and used them to become Mister A&T.”
In his first address to the newly elected student leaders and audience, Greene shared how impressed he was with the new SGA officers and that he was looking forward to a great year.
“We’re going to give it our all,” he said in an interview. “We are going to be there for the students and be approachable. We stand by and for the students.”
Rounding out the Greene Administration are the re-elected Christian Kornegay-White and Emani Terry, vice presidents of internal and external affairs, respectively. Also joining the administration are Jasmine Foy as secretary, Byron Hannah as treasurer, and Acacia Hines as attorney general. |
