| North Carolina A&T State University’s "Cold Steel" Drumline presented a clinic at the prestigious 41st Annual Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), November 9-12 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
“Cold Steel,” the first HBCU drumline to ever present a full clinic at the convention, was selected out of hundreds of applicants, which is an extreme honor as each clinician or group is charged with the task of bringing their selected skill to the thousands of percussionists in attendance.
"The clinic presented by the Cold Steel Drumline was historical. With over 1500 people in attendance, many left in awe not only by the energy and showmanship of the students, but also the high level of technical proficiency displayed,” said Lamon Lawhorn, N.C. A&T’s assistant director of bands. “As told to me by a collegiate educator: ‘That was the best clinic I've attended at PASIC in quite some time.’"
The drumline’s attendance was a major honor for the students, staff, band program, the university and HBCUs as a whole.
The Percussive Arts Society (PAS) is a non-profit, music-service organization whose mission is to promote percussion education, research, performance and appreciation throughout the world. Today, the society is almost 7,000 members strong, with 50 chapters located across the United States and an additional 28 chapters outside the United States. Each year PAS hosts PASIC, the largest percussion convention in the world, featuring the top names in drumming and percussion. |
