Women's Basketball Adds More Talent

North Carolina A&T women’s basketball head coach Tarrell Robinson secured his first two student-athletes for the class of 2017 with the signing of Morgan Batie, guard and Jonisha McCoy, guard/forward.

“We're excited to announce the latest additions to the North Carolina A&T State University basketball program,” said Robinson. “We feel that these two young women are intricate pieces to a pool of already talented young women that make up the future of this program. Our 2017 class was about finding the right pieces that fit, and we think we nailed it with these two phenomenal student- athletes.”

Batie started her high school career at Meadowbrook High School, where she was a regular
starter as a freshman, leading her team in scoring with a 11.2 points per game.  She passed the 1,000 career-point mark in her junior season scoring 575 points over 27 games helping her team to a No. 5 state ranking.  Batie was voted to the VISAA All-State first-team in the 2015-16 season and was awarded tournament MVP.

"Morgan complements our program. She embodies the things we pride ourselves in doing every day [such as] working hard, taking nothing for granted, and having high character,” said Robinson. “She is a versatile point guard with the ability to create her own shot and set her teammates up to score. She is a fierce competitor who hates to lose.”

Joining Batie, McCoy is another fierce competitor.  McCoy is 100 points shy of 1,000 career points in only two years at East Duplin High School. She was sidelined in 2015-16 due to an ACL injury, but was player of the year in 2013-14, averaging 18 points and eight rebounds per game.

“Jo is one of the best players in the state of North Carolina,” said Robinson.  “She's been on our radar for some time. We are extremely excited about landing her. She is skilled enough to play both the guard and forward position for us. She can really shoot the ball from the perimeter and will help us spread the floor offensively with her range. She is super coachable and just an all-around great kid who loves this game.”
