In an effort to more richly celebrate the accomplishments of students earning their doctoral and master’s degrees, N.C. A&T will inaugurate a graduate student commencement ceremony this May.
The new ceremony will take place separately from the main commencement ceremony, which predominantly recognizes undergraduate degree earners. It will feature all the ceremony associated with the hooding of the graduates, a traditional academic rite in which faculty members place special regalia over each graduating student’s robe as a symbol of the culmination of their studies.
Both ceremonies will take place Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Greensboro Coliseum, with the main ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the graduate ceremony at 1 p.m.
“North Carolina A&T’s growth as a land-grant, doctoral, higher research activity university is inspired by graduate education as a major component of our success,” said Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr. “We believe the time is right to offer special recognition to the growing number of masters and doctoral students who complete studies and research that help to make us a global leader in higher education.”
A&T currently offers nine doctoral degree programs with 11 different concentrations and 29 master’s programs with 46 concentrations. For the 2016-17 school year, 1,509 students are enrolled in those programs. |
