N.C. A&T Board of Visitors Chair, Kim Gatling passes the Gavel
As spring drew near, the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Board of Visitors convened on March 1, 2019, in the newly opened Barber Park Event Center. The meeting agenda included updates on enrollment growth, student success, the honors program and on-campus projects.
The N.C. A&T’s Board of Visitors is an independent advisory association whose primary functions are to advise the chancellor and senior administrators on matters related to maintaining and enhancing the University's quality and excellence. Kim Gatling ‘96, has led this group of advocates as chair from 2017-2019. During her time as chair, she has worked alongside Chancellor Harold L. Martin, Sr. and Board of Trustees Chair Tim King to create a plan to further increase the board’s impact by increasing its the size, shifting the timing of the meetings, and creating opportunities for university engagement.”
While attending North Carolina A&T, Gatling served on the Student Government Association and became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., among other leadership roles during her tenure. She graduated in 1996, with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (cum laude), and went on to receive her juris doctorate degree in 1999 from George Washington University Law School. She is currently a partner for Fox Rothschild Attorneys at Law, where she focuses her practice on intellectual property and technology.
As an active alumna of North Carolina A&T, Gatling is also involved with other organizations that are focused on issues she cares about such as the United Way’s initiative on ending poverty and Cone Health Foundation’s focus on healthy communities and addressing health disparities.
Gatling’s love for her alma mater and unwavering commitment to A&T has been widely recognized as she was recently elected to serve on the N.C. A&T Board of Trustees.
She continues to encourage young alumnae to get involved in efforts they are passionate about.
“Leadership begins with volunteering time, being committed to the effort, and staying engaged and committed volunteers are generally tapped to serve in leadership positions,” said Gatling.
Dan Ford ‘90 has been a member of the Board of Visitors since 2017 and will be the appointed chair of the board succeeding Gatling. His term will officially begin in fall 2019.
