North Carolina A&T travels to Norfolk State in an attempt to further their undefeated season in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Over the weekend, sophomore right side hitter Fatimah Shabazz led the team with 2.62 kills per set to go along with 0.38 blocks per set. Junior setter/right side Edie Brewer averaged 4.88 assists, 2.50 kills, 2.12 digs and 0.25 blocks. Sophomore libero Andrea Laboy-Rivera led the way with 3.50 digs per set and sophomore middle hitter Shaylynn Hall led the team with 1.00 blocks per set.

Junior outside hitter Courteney Pitt is third in the MEAC in kills per set at 3.72. Brewer is seventh in the MEAC in assists per set (5.79) while averaging 2.87 kills (seventh in the MEAC) and hitting .284 (fourth in the MEAC). Brewer’s numbers also include 2.38 digs and 0.56 blocks per set. Laboy-Rivera leads the MEAC in digs per set at .4.44. Meanwhile, Hall is the league’s top blocker at 1.07 per set.

In conference play only, Pitt is averaging 3.66 kills, while Brewer is averaging 5.78 assists, 2.94 kills, 2.06 and 0.84 blocks per set. She is also hitting an impressive .323 in MEAC play only. Laboy-Rivera’s numbers improve in conference play with 4.62 digs per set. The same can be said for Hall who is averaging 1.21 blocks per set in conference play.

The Norfolk State Spartans: Norfolk State’s only win was against Morgan State (3-0) on Oct. 14 but has since lost to Howard and George Washington. The Spartans are led by Anna Rupertova with 1.63 kills per set, Jill Aquino with 3.38 assists per set and Myleah Carter with 3.50 digs per set.

MEAC Weekly Award: For the third consecutive week, Brewer was named co-player of the week by the MEAC after averaging 4.88 assists, 2.50 kills, 2.12 digs and 0.25 blocks in two wins last week. Brewer is the first MEAC student-athlete to receive three consecutive volleyball player of the weeks since 2004. This is her fifth weekly award this season and sixth in her career.

The Aggies have recorded 10 MEAC weekly awards this season, which is tied for the most in the conference with Morgan State. After Brewer’s five, Laboy-Rivera and Hall have two apiece and Warfield has one.

Playing Well: Over the last 14 matches, Pitt leads is averaging 4.12 kills per set with a .237 hitting percentage. Shabazz is averaging 2.75 kills and 0.62 blocks. Brewer has recorded six triple-doubles in the last 14 matches and is averaging 6.25 assists, 3.09 kills and 2.36 digs. Laboy-Rivera is averaging 4.84 digs and Hall is averaging 1.16 blocks over the same span.

Career Watch: Pitt has 895 career kills and needs 16 kills to move into fourth in school history. She would pass Mara Davis (1996-99) who finished her career with 910 career kills.

Brewer has 1,709 career assists and needs 291 assists to become the fourth Aggie to record 2,000-plus assists. Brewer also has recorded 94 career service aces and needs 17 service aces to move into sixth place which is held by Judith Ball (2001-30 who recorded 110 service aces.

Laboy-Rivera has recorded 773 career digs and needs 23 digs to pass Stacey Malone (2006-09) in sixth place. Malone had 795 digs in her career.
