Happy 104th Birthday to Mrs. Veda Stroud ‘39

Mrs. Veda Stroud was born on April 14, 1916, in Pocomoke City, Maryland. She obtained two bachelor’s degrees in business administration and English in 1939 from North Carolina A&T State University. She married her college sweetheart, Dr. Virgil Stroud ’37, who was the founder of the political science department at A&T; he retired in 1980 as chairman of the department.

In college, Mrs. Stroud joined the Alpha Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in 1938 and served as the secretary, and she was also a member of the A&T College Choir. After graduation, she worked as a secretary for Dean Warmoth T. Gibbs for two years, who soon became the president of A&T College. She then pursued a career as an educator in the school of business and worked as a professor for 42 years. She retired in 1981 from COBE.

Now in retirement, Mrs. Stroud enjoys watching television, reading the paper, and going to church when the weather is good. She currently resides in Greensboro, N.C. with her family.

Her advice for living a long life is to not worry about anything and believe there is a logical explanation for everything.
