The holiday season is a blur in our rear view mirror, winter is upon us, and we look forward to spring. As a member of North Carolina A&T State University's Board of Visitors (BOV), you have demonstrated a commitment by becoming engaged in making the university a beacon of light for those who seek a better life through a college degree.
Many men and women, after attending the university, feel they can only look forward; they will not or cannot "look and reach back." They might think they have outgrown their old ways of life or that a degree has made them too sophisticated to return time, talent, or treasure to the university. My advice is to get all the degrees you can, but remember it's what you do for others who follow that really counts.
Chancellor Martin and staff have developed a road map to success for the university, (Preeminence 2020), that defines what the university must do to keep pace with and surpass our peer institutions. To begin our journey we, as BOV members, must take our roles as Advisors, Advocates, and Ambassadors to a higher level in 2012.
Between now and April 26th, I urge you to engage in committee sessions to ensure that the objectives developed in your November 2011 committee breakout sessions are on target to be stamped completed at our November 2012 general session.
Looking forward to seeing you in April.
