The Board of Governors of the 17-campus University North Carolina has selected some of the University’s most outstanding faculty to receive its 2014 Awards for Excellence in Teaching. N.C. A&T’s recipient is Angela K. Miles, associate professor, department of management, in the School of Business and Economics.
The 17 recipients, representing an array of academic disciplines, were nominated by special committees on their home campuses and selected by the Board of Governors Committee on Personnel and Tenure.
Each award winner will receive a commemorative bronze medallion and a $12,500 cash prize. All awards will be presented by a Board of Governors member during each campus’ spring graduation ceremonies.
“I am really excited to receive this award. I find a lot of joy in facilitating the learning process,” Miles said.
Winners include: Timothy J. Huelsman, professor, department of psychology, Appalachian State University; Abbie Brown, professor, College of Education, East Carolina University; Eyualem B. Abebe, associate professor, department of natural science, Elizabeth City State University; Lori A. Guevara, associate professor, department of criminal justice, Fayetteville State University; and Jim C. Harper, II, associate professor, department of history, N.C. Central University.
Other winners are George R. Hess, professor, department of forestry and environmental resources, N.C. State University; Dwight B. Mullen, professor, department of political science, UNC Asheville; Christian Iliadis, professor, department of physics and astronomy, UNC-Chapel Hill; Kimberly Kreisler Buch, professor, department of psychology, UNC Charlotte; Bruce K. Kirchoff, professor, department of biology, UNC Greensboro; Weston F. Cook, Jr., professor, department of history, UNC Pembroke; Patricia H. Kelley, professor, department of geography and geology, UNC Wilmington; Tadeu Coelho, associate professor, School of Music, UNC School of the Arts; Annette Debo, professor department of English; Western Carolina University; Leslee H. Shepard, associate professor, Division of Nursing, Winston-Salem State University; and Jonathan R. Bennett, instructor of physics, N.C. School of Science and Mathematics.
