Computer Science Professor Receives Best Oral Presenter Award

Dr. Kaushik Roy, assistant professor in the department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering received the Best Oral Presenter Award at the 2014 International Conference on Communication Systems and Computational Intelligence (CCSCI) held in Toronto, Canada January 10-12.

With the increasing demand of enhanced security, personal identification systems based on iris biometrics have gained widespread attention over the past decade. Roy’s winning paper, “Iris Recognition Using Level Set and Local Binary Pattern,” presents an efficient algorithm that localizes the iris region from the eye image and elicits distinctive and discriminating textural information to enhance iris recognition performance.

Roy received his PhD in computer science from Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec Canada in 2011. He received his Master of Science in computer science from Concordia University in 2006, and a Bachelor of Science in computer science from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh in 2001.

Roy also serves as assistant director of the Center for Advanced Studies in Identity Sciences (CASIS), at North Carolina A&T. His research interests include: biometrics, cyber identity, pattern recognition and computer vision. Roy has published several journal articles, conference papers, and authored one book.
